Getting started
Seven steps, start to finish. Most people are embedded on their site within ten minutes.
Create your account
Head to your dashboard and sign up with your work email. Already have an account? Just log in — you'll land on My bots.
Set up your organization
Chatbots belong to an organization, not to you personally — that's what lets your team share access to them later. On first login you'll be asked to name yours.
Create your first chatbot
From My bots, click New chatbot. Give it a name, and — this is the part worth not skipping — a website URL.
You'll also pick a brand colour and a widget icon:
Train it on your content
Open your chatbot and go to Training → Knowledge base. You've got two ways in:
- Train from website — give it a URL and it crawls and indexes the pages itself.
- Upload a PDF, text file or image — for a spec sheet, FAQ doc, or even a photo of a printed price list (it reads text out of images too).
Content changes often? Re-run either one any time — it just adds to what the bot already knows.
Give it a personality
In the Persona card, either start from a preset or write your own instructions from scratch — this is what shapes tone, not facts, so it works alongside whatever you trained it on.
Yes, Pirate is real. Click a preset to load it into the box, tweak the wording, then Save persona.
Test before you go live
Switch to the Test chatbot tab and ask it the questions a real customer would. Answers grounded in your trained content show a Source link back to the page they came from — a good sign it's actually reading what you gave it, not guessing.
Want a second opinion before it's on your site? Copy the shareable demo link from the Embed card and send it to a teammate — no code required to try it.
Add it to your website
Copy the snippet from the Embed on your website card and paste it just before the closing </body> tag on every page you want the widget to appear on.
<script src="https://www.chatbotconfig.uk/widget-v2.js" data-bot-id="YOUR_BOT_ID"></script>
Your real snippet (with your actual bot ID already filled in) is sitting right there in the Embed card — copy that one, not this example.
Running it day to day
Once it's live, this is what you'll come back to.
Conversations & leads
The Conversations tab logs every chat session; Leads holds every email your bot has captured. Both load in pages, so a busy bot doesn't choke your browser — click Load more as you scroll, or export the full set as CSV.
Live agent handoff
When the AI genuinely can't help, it can hand off instead of guessing.
Connect your tools
Drop a webhook URL into Integrations and every captured lead gets POSTed straight to it — wire it into Zapier, Make, or HubSpot and it flows into whatever you already use.
White-label the widget
Flip Remove branding in Integrations and the "Powered by ChatBot Config" watermark disappears from your widget — it's just your chatbot, on your site.
Invite your team
From Team, drop in a teammate's email, pick a role, and send the invite — they get an email with a link to accept.
Plans & billing
Manage your subscription from Settings — upgrade, downgrade, or update payment details through the billing portal any time.
